The Sharjah World Music Festival begins on Friday, January 6, 2017, and runs for nine days. It will feature artists from 13 countries from around the world.
With 24 acts performing, you will have an excellent time watching and listening to some of the best musicians and bands from around the world.
Here is a list of top performers you can see at the Sharjah World Music Festival 2017.
Sherine and Hussain Al Jassmi
The two superstars of Arabic music will be performing at the AL Majaz Amphitheatre on Friday, January 6, at 20:00. If you love Arabic music, you can not miss the opportunity to catch Egypt’s Sherine, known as the “Queen of Feelings”, or Emirati Superstar Hussain Al Jassmi, who is the first Arab performer to star at the Dubai Opera.
Reham Abdel Hakim
On January 8th at 21:00, you can catch up with singing sensation Reham Abel Hakim at the Flag Island Amphitheatre. Reham will be paying tribute to the legendary Umm Kulthum, the biggest ever star of Arabic music whose nickname was “Planet of the East.” Reham Abdel Hakim rose to prominence playing the role of the teenage singing legend in the dramatisation of her life for television. For the concert, Reham is supported by the Cairo Opera House Orchestra, under the direction of famous conductor Mohammed Al Maoji.
Mike del Ferro, Deborah J Carter and Niladri Kumar
For a true fusionist experience, you should attend this event on January the 9th at 21:00 at the AL Qasba Theatre. The combination of Dutch Jazz Pianist Mike del Ferro and his band alongside Deborah J Carter on vocals and Niladri Kumar, the Indian Fusion Musician who created his own “Zitar,” is truly something to behold. Music lovers are sure to enjoy this eclectic and unique gig.
For a French Touch, you cannot go wrong with French Accordionist Daniel Mille on January the 10th at 21:00 at the Al Qasba Theatre. His show is titled “Flavour of Paris” and conjures up the heady atmosphere and history of the French capital. Daniel will be performing his signature piece, a Tango repertoire by Astor Piazolla, the Argentinian musician.
David Peña Dorantes and Marina Heredia
Vocalist Marina Heredia and David Pena Dorantes, the Andalusian composer and piano soloist, will dazzle you with the flavour of Spain in a show titled the “Jewel of Flamenco.” The show will take place at the AL Qasba Theatre on January the 11th, at 21:00.
Chico and the Gypsies
If you love the Gypsy Kings, you must turn up to see Chico Bouchikhi, the co-founder of the band who went solo in 1992. Chico will be wooing the audience with his Catalan pop-rumba mix on January the 12th, 21:00 at the Flag Island Amphitheatre.
Oussama Rahbani and Hiba Tawaji
If you are a fan of The Voice, you will recognise up and coming Lebanese singing sensation Hiba Tawaji, who rose to prominence after appearing in The Voice France in 2015. For this show, she teams up with legendary Lebanese composer and producer Oussama Rahbani to produce an evening with a great mix of western and Arabic traditions. The show will take place at the Flag Island Amphitheatre on Friday, January 13th, at 21:00.
Mohamad Jasem and Nagham Al Emirat Band
Not surprisingly, the closing act is a tribute to the host country with an Emirati night. The Nagham Al Emirat Band, which is composed of young up and coming UAE musicians, will bring the festival to a close alongside Fujairah singing star Jasem Mohamed. Expect some khaleeji tunes with a contemporary influence to bring the Sharjah world music festival to an end. The final performance is due at the Flag Island Amphitheatre on January 14th at 21:00.
