Emirates opens her luxury lounges to economy flyers. For many travellers who either pass through Dubai or are based in the UAE, Emirates Airlines has some great news for you. It is now possible to purchase access to their Business and First Class lounges in Dubai.
How it works
The new system works relatively simply, with two options, one for Skywards Blue members, and one for Silver and Gold members, and it works as follows:
- Skywards Blue members can access the Business class lounge for $100 or the First Class lounge for $200 when flying in Economy
- Silver and Gold members can invite a guest to join them in the business class lounge for $100. Alternatively, guests who can access the business class lounge anyway can opt for an upgrade and access the First Class lounge for an additional $100.
As per the Emirates website:
“If you’re an Emirates Skywards Blue member, you can now pay to access Emirates lounges at Dubai International Airport regardless of your class of travel, and so can your family and friends who are going on the same Emirates flight.
If you’re a Silver or Gold member who already enjoys complimentary access, you can invite guests who are travelling on the same flight to join you for an additional charge – even if they’re travelling in Economy Class. And to make your journey extra special, you can purchase an upgrade to the First Class lounge in Dubai.
If you’re a Platinum member, you can now pay to invite even more guests to join you in any of our eligible lounges in Dubai.” See full terms and conditions.
This new option is very handy for frequent fliers who just want to avoid the hustle and bustle of the airport and relax in the lounge. Besides, it is great when travelling in groups since even those with status can now invite another person into the lounge.
While some travellers have expressed some concern that could lead to overcrowding in the lounges, this will more than likely not be the case, since the prices for lounge access are somewhat high, so demand should be tempered by the high price.
This is great news for business travellers, and regular fliers who travel in Economy but need the space, and facilities in lounges to keep working on the go. Being able to pay to access all the fantastic facilities in the Dubai lounges is a step in the right direction.
